I've spent 2 days training at The Cheesecake Factory, a.k.a. "The Cheese" , which has been sitting in a room with five other girls and two trainers looking at slides of food and cheesecake and talking about the exceptional service that the Cheese is known for. Oh but today we walked around the dining room and went over table numbers. then went downstairs. 250 menu items, emphasis on excellence in service, and is the most profitable "casual dining" restaurant in the world by a landslide (including Applebees, 99, Bertucie's, Fridays, etc.), originated in Beverly Hills so the Pats come in to eat occasionally, and Mandy Moore and David Beckham have made appearances at this particular spot. Pretty sweet. Not to mention that the money will be sick. Once I start 2 more classroom days, then next week I have 3 floor shifts: following a server, running food, and being a server but being followed by another person to get my certification, then the next Friday morning I go in at 7 am for a review session followed by an 8 am exam time. 2 tests, one on food, the other on service, and I have to have a 90% to pass. Then I get to work. I ran into Melody Anderson today, so someone to know to work with, not to mention the girls I'm training with.
oh mans.
I've also completed two weeks at Frontline (which airs tonight, haha) and I'm definitely learning a lot. I can't go sit and do stuff like color correct or create a promo video because things have to be done on a timely manner and these editors fly through those things like nothing. I've always been a watcher, and I never expected to do that anyways so I'm getting a lot out of this, mostly learning jargon, I learned a lot about timecode and answered problems that I'd been having during the school year with stuff, and enjoying being in the business. Still don't know what I want to do with my life, or even when I graduate... but I think I'm definitely thinking more strongly again into grad school at Emerson or BU to learn more tech and film studies approaches and whatnot to gain what I couldn't learn at ENC.
I'm enjoying the time on my own, I'd die without my "new" tv (was my mom's for years, but I stole it ), my fish finally trusts me not to kill him I think... but he still doesn't have a name, I want to walk/run more on Quincy Shore Drive on the days I'm not running around a restaurant, and I'm reading through the Psalms every night before I go to bed. Very comforting to just stop my head before I go to bed.
God is good. He provides to those who trust Him. Everything falls into place. "For I know the plans I have for you," Declares the LORD. "Plans to prosper and not to harm you, to give you a hope and a future."
